What are KYOTO stamps?

京都で作られた伝統と技術を継承する印章を『京印章』といいます。
京都の歴史と共に歩んできた、京都府の伝統工芸品です。
『京印章』は 平成19年1月15日地域ブランドとして国から認定されました。
このはんこ体験をきっかけにはんこのおもしろさ、漢字の奥深さを身近に
感じながら楽しい時間をお過ごしください。

Stamps that carry on the traditions and techniques of Kyoto are called “Kyoinsho.” This traditional handicraft has a deep-rooted history in Kyoto.Recognized as a regional brand on January 15, 2007, Kyoto stamps reflect the essence of the city's craftsmanship.This experience allows you to explore the depth of Kanji culture while having fun! Enjoy a wonderful time immersing yourself in the world of Kyoto stamps.

京都はんこづくり体験 yoto Hanko making experience

1. 動画鑑賞 Watching videos

印章（はんこ）の歴史等に関する動画をご覧いただきます
Watch a video about the history of stamps.

2. 字入れ Design 

お気に入りの漢字を選び、字入れしていただきます
事前に好きな文字や彫りたい文字を考えてきていただけるとスムーズです
Select your favorite Kanji and design it.
If you decide on the characters or words you want to engrave in advance, your experience will go more smoothly.

3. はんこに彫刻
Engraving on a stamp

専用の機械で彫刻します
Engrave it with a specialized machine.

4. 彫刻体験 Sculpture experience

はんこを彫るための彫刻刀（印刀）を用いて、直線を彫る体験をしていただきます。また当店でご用意した文字を実際に彫刻していただきます。
After you have had the experience of carving straight lines using a carving knife, you will then finish off the finished stamp.
In addition, we will actually engrave the letters prepared at our shop.

5.押印、額入れ The finished stamp 

仕上がったはんこを紙に押印し額にいれます
The finished stamp is stamped onto paper and framed.

6. お土産 Souvenir

はんこと額をお土産としてお持ち帰りください
Please take home your original work as a souvenir.

金印（委奴国王印）レプリカ

日本最古の印章、金印「委奴国王印」は、1784年2月23日に、現在の福岡市東区志賀島で偶然発見されました。
印面には『漢委奴国王』の5文字がきざまれています。

Japan's oldest seal, the gold seal "Japanese king'' was accidentally discovered on February 23, 1784 on what is now Shikajima, Higashi Ward, Fukuoka City. The five characters of ”Kan-wa-na-koku-oh'' are inscribed on the seal.

印章は、捺印の際など、誤って枠が欠けることがあります。
枠が欠けないように金属で保護をした印章は現在ではほとんど流通していません。

The frame of a seal may be accidentally chipped when it is stamped.
Seals whose frames are protected with metal to prevent them from chipping are almost no longer in circulation.

 

落款印の飾り彫刻

印章の上部に動物や装飾が彫られることは、印章自体の美的価値を高め、趣味を反映するためと考えられます。特に獅子は、古来より勇気や力強さの象徴とされています。

The animals and decorations carved on the top of the seal are thought to enhance the aesthetic value of the seal itself and reflect one's taste. The lion in particular has been a symbol of courage and strength since ancient times.
落款と鉄筆

落款は、大小様々な大きさで彫られています。
その彫刻は「鉄筆」と呼ばれる、専用の彫刻刀一本で彫られます。

The seal is carved in various sizes.
The carvings are made with a single chisel called a teppitsu (iron pencil), which is a special chisel used to carve stone signatures.

印床
Seal fixing stand


紹介文や説明文などを印章を彫る際に、印章を固定する印床（インドコ)。
印章はてこの原理を用いて彫っていくため、材料を固定しなければいけません。
楔の原理を用いています。

A stamp bed (indoko) that fixes the seal when engraving introductions, explanations, etc. on the seal.
Since seals are engraved using the principle of leverage, the material must be fixed.
It uses the wedge principle.
