Book Your Hanko Experience

Create Your Hanko in 4 Steps

1. Watching videos

Watch a video about the history of stamps.

2. Design 

Select your favorite Kanji and design it.
If you decide on the characters or words you want to engrave in advance, your experience will go more smoothly.

3. Engraving the Stamp

Engrave it with a specialized machine.

4. Hand-Finishing Experience

After you have had the experience of carving straight lines using a carving knife, you will then finish off the finished stamp.
In addition, we will actually engrave the letters prepared at our shop.

5. Your Finished Stamp 

Your finished seal is stamped onto paper and presented as a keepsake.

6. Souvenir

Please take home your original work as a souvenir.

What are KYOTO stamps?

Traditional seals made using techniques passed down in Kyoto are known as “Kyo-insho.” This traditional craft has a long history in Kyoto and was recognized as a regional brand in 2007.

 Gold Seal Replica


Japan's oldest seal, the gold seal "Japanese king'' was accidentally discovered on February 23, 1784 on what is now Shikajima, Higashi Ward, Fukuoka City. The five characters of ”Kan-wa-na-koku-oh'' are inscribed on the seal.

The frame of a seal may be accidentally chipped when it is stamped.

Seals whose frames are protected with metal to prevent them from chipping are almost no longer in circulation.

 

Decorative Carving


The animals and decorations carved on the top of the seal are thought to enhance the aesthetic value of the seal itself and reflect one's taste. The lion in particular has been a symbol of courage and strength since ancient times.

The seal is carved in various sizes.
The carvings are made with a single chisel called a teppitsu (iron pencil), which is a special chisel used to carve stone signatures.

Seal Holder


A stamp bed (indoko) that fixes the seal when engraving introductions, explanations, etc. on the seal.
Since seals are engraved using the principle of leverage, the material must be fixed.
It uses the wedge principle.
